What are the requirements to zipline?
WEIGHT: Must weigh between 40lbs to 260lbs. This requirement is strictly enforced, and all participants will be weighed during the check-in process. No refunds will be issued for guests not meeting our weight requirements at check-in. All guests 40lbs-69lbs will be a “Tandem Child” and will zipline the last three lines with a certified zipline guide.
AGE:
- Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the zipline activity.
- Adults are defined as individuals aged 13 and older.
- If parents or guardians are not participating in the ziplining, we ask that they stay nearby in case their child needs to be brought back down to the check-in location.
Are there restrictions on who can zipline?
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to hike 1/2 mile at elevation over uneven surfaces
- Free of chronic heart problems
- Not pregnant – unfortunately, it’s unsafe to zip while pregnant
- You should not have had recent surgery; especially on ankles, knees, or back. If you have serious neck, back, or joint injuries, you should also check with your doctor.
*The inherent risks of walking on unimproved hiking trails and joint impacts associated with zipline landings should be considered before going on a zipline tour
Is ziplining safe?
3 MILLION AND COUNTING: With over 17 years of experience, and more than 3 million zipline crossings, Hawaii Zipline Tours is the most experienced zipline operator in the U.S.
INSPECTED DAILY: Each day, our trained staff thoroughly inspects all lines, platforms, trails, and equipment, and an accredited 3rd party ACCT inspector reviews all ziplines, equipment, and practices annually.
TESTED FOR SAFETY: All our equipment is tested to hold at least 5,000 pounds and each zipline cable has a minimum breaking strength of over 26,000 pounds.
TRAINED GUIDES: Every zipline guide goes through an 80-hour training process (double the industry standard) covering all aspects of equipment, safety, and operations. They then undergo weeks of additional on-the-job training before officially earning the title of Zipline Guide.
Are the tours guided?

What should I bring / wear?
SHOES: For your safety, we ask that you wear shoes with a fully-enclosed toe and heel, like an athletic or hiking shoe. Shoes must be snug. (No Teva or Keen-type sandals with open sections or 5-finger shoes.)
CAMERAS: Cameras and cell phones are welcome, however, we recommend you securely strap them to yourself.
DRESS APPROPRIATELY: For your comfort, we recommend wearing shorts and a t-shirt, or something you would wear on a light hike. Please bring a rain jacket if you have one, if not we can provide for you.
GLASSES: Glasses and sunglasses may be worn – just be sure to bring your strap.
DITCH THE PACK: You can bring your backpack, but we’ll lock it up for you while you zip.
PROTECT YOUR SKIN: Bring your reef-safe sunscreen. We also recommend wearing clothes that help block the sun.
What happens if it rains?
Tours operate rain or shine. If we do cancel, we’ll make every effort to contact you in advance to reschedule or refund the tour.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our hassle-free cancellation policy guarantees that you receive a 100% refund for any tour cancelled at least 24 hours in advance of your tour time. For cancellations made within 24 hours of your tour, we can only provide a refund if we are able to rebook the spots on your tour.

We are located on Hawaii Island (Big Island)
What side of the Big Island are you located on?
We are located on the east side of the island, just north of Hilo. We are about a 2hr drive from Kona.

What days of the week are you open?
We are open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm. Please email us at Hawaiiziplinetours@gmail.com to reach us after hours, we will respond as soon as we open.
Do you offer Transportation from Kona/Waikoloa Resorts?
Unfortunately, we do not offer transportation to our meeting location in Honomu.
Can guests who are not ziplining watch or follow along on tour?
Unfortunately, non zipline guests are not able to accompany or watch the zipline tours.
How do guests get from the check-in area to the ziplines?
We transport our guests in a 15 passenger van both to and from the check-in location to the ziplines.
Are the tours private or in groups?
All of our tours are in groups of up to 12-15 participants
Do you offer photography or Gopro Rentals?
We do not offer any photography services or Gopro rentals. We encourage our guests to bring their own cameras/phones to take photos.
What days are the Hiking Tours Available?
The Hiking Tours are available Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday
If my party wants to zipline and I want to do the hiking tour, what time of zipline should they book?
They can either book the 9am or 10am zipline tour, and their check-in and end times will be similar to the Hiking Tour
If I want to do both a Zipline and Hiking tour how would I book that?
You would need to create two reservations, one for a Hiking Tour and one for a Zipline Tour. The 9:30am hiking tour will finish around 12pm, so the 1:30pm or 2:30pm Zipline Tour time would work.
Do you offer Tandem Ziplining?
Yes! Tandem ziplining is available only for children ages 12 and under, 40-69 lbs. It can only be booked with an adult accompanying on the tour. These guests will need to be booked as a “Tandem Child” and will zipline lines 1-4 on their own and tandem with a certified zipline guide on lines 5-7.
What is the best form of transportation to get to your location?
We highly suggest pre-arranging transportation to and from our location, or renting a car. Uber and Lyft are unreliable in our remote area.
What time should I arrive for my tour?
Check-in for each tour is 30 minutes prior to scheduled tour time. (Example: Check-in for the 1:30pm Tour will be at 1:00pm). Please arrive with closed toe shoes, make sure to double check yours and any guests weights, and pre-fill out your waivers. This will allow for an easy quick check-in for your tour.
